This laser uses a specific wavelength (1927nm) which preferentially targets water with high absorbance. This means that this laser can target pigment by penetrating into the layer of the skin where pigment resides (this is where pigment containing cells live and where melasma occurs, but it won’t cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation because this laser so strongly absorbs water that it doesn’t stimulate pigment cells.
