Microneedling

Kickstart your body’s natural healing powers to treat scars, wrinkles, and sun damage.
We use the SkinPen Precision Elite, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, to create controlled, mechanical, micro-injuries that trigger the production of new collagen and elastin for smoother, healthier skin.

What can you expect?

  • Pause Actives: Stop using retinol, retinoids (Tretinoin), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, and hydroquinone -2-4 days before treatment.
  • Minimize Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners within 2 weeks of your appointment.
  • Skin Prep: Arrive the day of your procedure with no makeup, moisturizers, or sunscreen. We’ll take it from here.
  • Numbing: We’ll apply a topical numbing cream for 30–45 minutes to ensure you are comfortable.
  • The Buzz: The device vibrates and sounds like an electric toothbrush. You may feel a scratching sensation or more discomfort on bony areas (like the forehead), but most people find this procedure very tolerable with little to no discomfort.
  • Pinpoint Bleeding:This is normal and can be a desired outcome – it means we are reaching the correct depth to stimulate collagen.
  • The “Sunburn”: You will look and feel like you have a moderate sunburn for the first 24 hours. You may also have redness and swelling. This is normal.
  • Keep it Clean: Avoid washing your face and applying makeup for 24 hours. We will provide you with an aftercare kit to make your recovery as simple as possible. You may return to your normal skincare routine once fully healed. This can take 5-7 days.
  • Sweat-Free Zone: Avoid heavy exercise and excessive sweating for 48 hours to prevent bacteria from entering the open channels. Also avoid pools, hot tubs, and saunas for at least 48 hours.

What do you need to know?

Frequency

  • Corrective Series: For acne scars or texture, we recommend a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.
  • Maintenance: Many patients schedule a single treatment every 4-6 months to keep collagen production active.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the rollers I use at home?

No. At-home “dermarollers” can tear the skin because the needles enter and exit at an angle. The SkinPen stamps vertically at a high speed (thousands of RPMs), which is safer, more precise, and goes much deeper than any home device can safely achieve.

Can I go to work the next day?

Yes. By the next morning, the redness usually fades to a pink flush (like you spent an hour at the beach). You can cover it with mineral makeup after 24 hours.

Does it help with acne scars?

Absolutely. Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for “rolling” or “boxcar” acne scars because it breaks up old scar tissue and encourages healthy skin to grow in its place.

Will I bleed?

You may have pinpoint bleeding during the treatment, which acts as a natural serum for your skin and signals to us that we are treating you appropriately. We wipe the skin clean before you leave.

Is it safe?

Yes. We use the SkinPen Precision Elite, which is the gold standard and the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA. It uses single-use, sterile needle cartridges to completely eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.

How does it work?

Think of it as “aerating the lawn.” The SkinPen creates microscopic channels in the skin. Your body perceives this as a mini-injury and rushes to repair it by creating new collagen and elastin. The result is fresher, thicker, and smoother skin.
